SIQ Checked

Nowadays there are so many similar products on the market that customers are often puzzled when they have to select one from the many on offer. The decision for or against a product is usually based on a customer's own preferences with regard to the design, functionality, usability, and other technical characteristics of a product. So according to customer choice, you may not offer the product a customer requires. However, it may be the case that a customer is not yet aware of your product.

  • How can we make our products noticeable?
  • How can we tell customers that our products are safer than those of our competition, and remain unbiased?
  • How can we win customers into buying our products?

Although customer requirements differ from a customer to customer, there is one requirement they all share - A product must be safe.

  • Are we certain beyond doubt that the products we sell are safe? Is it possible that our products could be harmful? If a customer were harmed, what would be the impact on our business and sales?
  • Are customers aware that our products are safe? Have we told them that clearly and impartially enough?

At SIQ we give you the opportunity to have the products you sell tested according to most critical safety requirements stated in pertinent standards (EN or IEC).

If your products are found to meet these most essential requirements of the relevant standard, you can announce this to your customers in an unbiased way by affixing the SIQ CHECKED mark to your products.

What is SIQ Checked?

SIQ Checked stands for product testing according to the most critical safety requirements stated in pertinent standards (EN or IEC). The scope of measurements, tests and checks this service covers is not as exhaustive as that of a type test which is a basis for issuing a certificate of conformity or a licence for the use of the SIQ certification mark.

In order to reduce costs of product safety testing to a minimum, we perform only those tests and measurements on a product, which give us the most information on a product's compatibility in the shortest time possible. However, under such a reduced scope of measurements and tests we cannot guarantee that the product complies to all requirements of relevant standards or technical regulations, but may declare that there is strong probability the product is safe.

The type of a product that has been assessed as safe bears the SIQ Checked mark. However, the SIQ Checked mark can be affixed only to products from the same shipment or batch. If the applicant later decides to apply also for a certificate of conformity or a licence for the use of the SIQ certification mark, the measurements and tests already performed under the SIQ Checked procedure are not repeated but the results of earlier testing taken into consideration.

Which tests and checks does the SIQ CHECKED procedure include?

  • Labels, markings, warnings, instructions for use;
  • Construction (safe use, component parts), accessories;
  • Hazard of contacting live parts;
  • Basic electric tests: dielectric strength, insulating resistance, leakage current, earthing resistance;
  • Heating (in abnormal operation, if possible);
  • Protection against overload, abnormal operation, critical component failures;
  • Environmental impacts - relevant.

What products can be SIQ Checked?

  • Category I products
    Electrical hazards only, simple products
    (i.e. installation material, simple luminaires).
  • Category II products
    Electrical and mechanical hazards (electric handheld tools, simple electronic apparatus, luminaries that do not fall into the category I products).
  • Category III products
    Electrical and mechanical hazards, environmental testing required

What is the fee for the SIQ CHECKED mark?

To enhance customer trust into safety of products does not necessarily mean that the prices should dramatically increase. We offer you attractive, pre-defined fees for the individual categories of products.

If the applicant later decides to apply also for a certificate of conformity or a licence for the use of the SIQ certification mark, the fee for the entire certification procedure is reduced by the settled fee for the SIQ checked procedure.

Basic electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) check

For those, who want to have their product checked also from the aspect of electromagnetic compatibility, we offer basic check of electromagnetic compatibility for the products of Category II and III.

If the applicant later decides to apply also for a CCA EMC certification mark, the fee for the entire certification procedure is reduced by the settled fee for the basic EMC check procedure.
