Electromagnetic compatibility means the ability of a device, unit of equipment, or system to operate correctly in its electromagnetic environment without causing excessive electromagnetic interference to anything in that environment.

Generally, the assessment of electromagnetic compatibility deals with:

  • Electromagnetic interference emissions: the phenomenon whereby electromagnetic interference is emitted from a device, unit of equipment, or system;
  • Electromagnetic immunity, which is the ability of a device, unit of equipment, or system to operate correctly in the presence of electromagnetic interference.
