AS/NZS 3112:2025 Annex J – Integral or Detachable Plug Portions of Equipment for Insertion into Socket-Outlets – Australian and New Zealand Markets

19. October 2026

The updated AS NZS 3112:2025 standard introduces a rigorous new thermal cycling test (Clause J.4.8.4) specifically for plugs utilizing spring-operated contacts.

This mandatory assessment evaluates the electrical and mechanical integrity of these designs under severe temperature fluctuations. Manufacturers must ensure their products meet these updated criteria to maintain compliance within the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The integration of this test aims to significantly enhance product reliability and mitigate potential fire risks associated with contact degradation. Affected stakeholders are urged to review their current designs and transition to the latest standard before it becomes mandatory on 21 November 2027.

Failure to comply could result in goods being deemed non-compliant and removed from distribution.
