BSMI in process of adopting the new CNS15598-1 standard, based on IEC62368-1 3rd edition

08. April 2022

The Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) will adopt the newest versions of the electrical safety specifications, electromagnetic compatibility, and related inspection standards, CNS 15598-1 (safety) and CNS 15936 (EMC), to bring Taiwan Regulations in line with the International Standards to ensure consumers’ safety.

The current standard, CNS 14336-1, will expire in 2024 and will be officially replaced by CNS15598-1standard, which corresponds to IEC 62368-1 3rd edition. To date, the BSMI has not announced the implementation date of the new standard yet. However, this is expected to be done in the 2nd half of 2022.

SIQ IECEE CB Test Reports and Certificates according to IEC62368-1 3rd edition will be fully accepted by the BSMI, without requirements for additional testing. If an IEC62368-1 2nd edition CB report is provided, a BSMI laboratory will evaluate the differences between the 2nd and 3rd editions.

A CNS 14336-1 certificate, issued before 1 July 2023, will be valid until the expiry date of the certificate. Certificates that are about to expire can also be extended according to the original certificate standard.
