Challenges in Metrology

As part of the SIQ Summit 2026, we invite you to join us at the metrology seminar, Challenges in Metrology, taking place on 27 May 2026 at the Brdo Congress Centre, Slovenia.

Metrology is the foundation of quality, safety, and compliance. It is more than support for industry – it is an integral part of our everyday lives. We encounter it daily, for example when refuelling a car, checking the time, using smartwatches and mobile phones, visiting a doctor, or paying various bills. Accurate and reliable measurements are the basis of our daily routines.

The seminar will bring together leading experts from the academia, national metrology institutes and SIQ, who will present a selection of highly relevant topics addressing the current challenges in modern metrology, namely:

  • The evolving role of metrology within the framework of the Metre Convention
  • Best practices for writing symbols, units, numbers, and equations in technical documentation
  • Power and power quality measurements in practice
  • Oscilloscope measurements and interpretation
  • S-parameters in EMC applications
  • Digital tools and metrology services through the SIQ Portal.

With distinguished speakers such as Prof. Bojan Ačko and Rado Lapuh, PhD, the seminar offers both strategic insight and practical expertise for professionals working in laboratories, industry, accreditation bodies, or quality management.

Regardless of the area you are responsible for, the seminar will provide you with valuable knowledge of the metrology system, correct notation of units, metrological traceability, and the evaluation of measurement uncertainty.

Join us at the SIQ Summit 2026 and secure your place today.

Guest Speakers

Prof. Bojan Ačko

Bojan Ačko is a Full Professor specialised in dimensional metrology and quality. He is employed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor. Since 2001, he is the head of the  Laboratory for Production Measurement, which is the national metrology laboratory for length in Slovenia. He is also the head of the Chair for Production Engineering. His bibliography includes over 40 scientific articles, three scientific monographs, and numerous other publications. Prof. Ačko is the technical end lead assessor for the Slovenian Accreditation and a contact person for Slovenia in the Technical Committee for Length in EURAMET. He has participated in 6 European metrological projects and is also the leader of the long-term national research programme P2-0190 dealing with metrology and advanced technologies.

Rado Lapuh, PhD

Rado Lapuh began his career in electrical engineering, developing a strong interest in measurement science and metrology. He spent ten years at the Institute for Quality and Metrology, gaining experience in traceable measurements and quality assurance. He then worked for two decades at the Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, where he helped shape the national metrology system and engaged in international cooperation through EURAMET, the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), and the Consultative Committee for Time and Frequency (CCTF) and Consultative Committee for Units (CCU), expert bodies supporting the Metre Convention. Today, he works as an independent metrology researcher and consultant, contributing to European research projects and collaborating with national accreditation bodies.
