Online workshop: Measurement uncertainty – physical greatness

08. 07. 2025
The measurement result of a calibration or testing laboratory is incomplete without a given uncertainty of measurement, therefore, the laboratory shall have and apply a procedure to estimate the uncertainty of measurement for all calibrations.
The measurement uncertainty parameter is related to the measurement result and indicates the spread of values that can reasonably be attributed to the measurand. Thus, the expressed measurement uncertainty ensures the credibility of the result in any field.

Purpose

In this workshop, we present the procedure for estimating measurement uncertainty and the possibility of using measurement uncertainty estimates in calibrations and tests in the field of physical quantities. In this way, we introduce the importance of ensuring the credibility of measurement results.
After the presentation of the theory, we discuss and analyse a selected study case on the basis of which you are trained to independently calculate or determine measurement uncertainty for physical greatness.

Content

  • Definitions and basic concepts
  • Determination of standard uncertainty, combining standard uncertainty and expanded uncertainty
  • Passing uncertainty
  • Practical examples from the fields of mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and physical greatness

Participation is recommended to:

  • measurement professionals in organizations, institutes or laboratories,
  • personnel responsible for the validity of measurement results,
  • anyone wishing to improve their knowledge of measurements.

Working methods and preparation for the course:

  • The online workshop consists of lectures, practical examples, and exchange of views and experiences.
  • Attendees gain the SIQ Certificate of Participation.

The online workshop will take place in a live online e-classroom.  Up to two days before the implementation, registered participants will receive a link to the online workshop. Participants need a computer with a microphone and a camera, as well as access to a reliably functioning internet connection to participate in this online workshop without interruption.
