SIQ Extends its Railway EMC Testing Capabilities with EN 50592 and EN 50500
For many years, SIQ has offered EMC testing for the railway sector in accordance with the EN 50121 series and EN 50155 standards. In 2026, SIQ further extended its railway EMC testing capabilities by adding EN 50592 and EN 50500 standards to its scope. The services include both laboratory testing and on-site measurements of rolling stock and railway infrastructure. SIQ has also passed an accreditation assessment by Slovenian Accreditation (SA) for these standards.
SIQ’s EMC laboratory now provides testing and measurements according to:
- EN 50121-1 – General requirements;
- EN 50121-2 – Emission of the whole railway system to the outside world;
- EN 50121-3-1 – Rolling stock – train and complete vehicle;
- EN 50121-3-2 – Rolling stock – apparatus;
- EN 50121-4 – Emission and immunity of signalling and telecommunications apparatus;
- EN 50121-5 – Emission and immunity of fixed power supply installations and apparatus;
- EN 50155 – Rolling stock – Electronic equipment (EMC part)
- EN 50592 – Testing of rolling stock for electromagnetic compatibility with axle counters;
- EN 50500 – Measurement of magnetic field levels in the railway environment.
On-site EMC measurements
In addition to laboratory testing, SIQ performs on-site measurements of rolling stock and railway infrastructure. Railway EMC measurements have already been carried out by SIQ experts in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Türkiye.
One of the specialised capabilities of SIQ is testing the electromagnetic compatibility of rolling stock with trackside train detection systems in accordance with EN 50592 and ERA/ERTMS/033281.
Railway expertise beyond EMC
SIQ has more than 15 years of experience in railway testing and conformity assessment. It acts as a Notified Body (NoBo), NB 1304, under Directive (EU) 2016/797, and as a Designated Body (DeBo) for ensuring compliance with Slovenian national railway requirements.
Combining specialised EMC testing, on-site measurements and railway conformity assessment expertise, SIQ supports manufacturers, suppliers and railway operators with both individual EMC testing requirements and broader railway compliance projects.
