Chile Introduces Digital Compliance Revolution for Wireless Devices
Chile has launched one of the most forward-looking regulatory reforms in Latin America for telecommunications equipment. Under Resolution Exenta N° 737/2025, the national telecom authority—Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (SUBTEL)—is transitioning from traditional paper-based certification to a fully digital compliance model for most short-range devices (SRDs).
The new system becomes mandatory in February 2026 and requires manufacturers and importers to affix a unique QR code on the external packaging of all SRDs placed on the Chilean market.
What Changes Under Resolution 737/2025
1. Certification Exemption for Most SRDs
Common wireless technologies—including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, RFID, and other short-range devices—no longer require SUBTEL Type Approval.
2. Mandatory Digital Traceability
Compliance is demonstrated via a QR code, which must link to a live, dedicated webpage containing:
- Declaration of Conformity
- Applicable test reports
- Technical specifications (frequency bands, maximum power, modulation, etc.)
- This page must remain continuously accessible for market surveillance.
3. Medical Equipment Remains Regulated
Wireless medical devices listed under sections (g) and (h) of the Resolution still require formal SUBTEL Type Approval.
Impact on Manufacturers and Importers
This reform shifts regulatory control from pre-market approval to post-market digital verification, enabling SUBTEL to:
- improve spectrum management,
- support fast-evolving wireless technologies, and
- perform real-time compliance audits of products in circulation.
To meet the February 2026 deadline, companies must now update:
- packaging and labelling processes,
- internal documentation workflows, and
- digital hosting of compliance evidence.
