Criteria for Rated Output Power and Current of Power Supply Units (PSUs)
In 2024, the OSM/EE concluded that a power supply unit that does not achieve its declared rated output power or rated output current cannot be considered compliant with the applicable standard. This interpretation was issued without specifying any allowable tolerances.
TC108 WG HBSDT subsequently raised concerns regarding this position, highlighting that the absence of defined tolerances may lead to inconsistent assessments and does not reflect the practical performance characteristics of many PSU designs.
A proposal has therefore been submitted requesting that OSM/EE reconsider this decision. The topic is scheduled for further discussion at the next OSM/EE meeting in May 2026, where clarification or revised guidance may be developed.
