Indonesia Restricts Recognition of Test Reports for Telecom Equipment
As part of an effort to bolster the national testing and certification infrastructure, Indonesia has announced significant changes to its telecommunications equipment regulations. Starting from March 1, 2025, the Directorate General of Post and Information Technology (SDPPI) will no longer recognise test reports from foreign laboratories for telecom equipment that is intended for use in Indonesia. This new policy is designed to improve local control over equipment safety and regulatory compliance.
Previously, manufacturers could submit test reports from accredited foreign laboratories to satisfy the certification requirements for their telecom products. Under the new regulation, however, all telecom equipment—including mobile phones, routers, and network infrastructure—must undergo testing at locally accredited Indonesian laboratories.
This move is part of the Indonesian government’s broader efforts to support local industries and ensure that imported telecom products comply with national safety, quality, and electromagnetic compatibility standards. By requiring local testing, Indonesia seeks to foster greater self-reliance and ensure that products meet the national specific regulatory needs.
Implications for Manufacturers:
Manufacturers who previously relied on foreign testing bodies will now need to factor in the cost and time associated with sending their products to Indonesian labs for compliance testing.
