New requirements for the registration of EAC Declarations of Conformity in Russia announced

11. October 2021

As of 1 January 2021, new rules for the registration of EAC declarations apply. According to the decree of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the submission of a Global Location Number (GLN for short) is now mandatory. A Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) can be provided if available. All EAC certificates/declarations issued after 1 September 2021 require a GLN.

What are GTIN and GLN?

GLN (Global Location Number) is a unique international code used in electronic data exchange and e-commerce systems. The number consists of 13 digits. It starts with a two-or three-digit national prefix (in Russia – from 460 to 469) and ends with a control number.

GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is a bar code of the product. The identification number of the GS1 standard in the bar code for goods allows to accurately determine which product item a certain unit of goods belongs to.

GLN and GTIN codes are two of the many global identification systems utilized by the international organization GS1.

Manufacturers shall join GS1 to work with these identification numbers which are becoming mandatory for certification.

GLONASS requirements

GLONASS is a Russian space-based satellite navigation system, providing an alternative to GPS as a second navigational system that operates with global coverage and equal precision. GLONASS coordinates can be used as alternatives to GLNs.

With these GLONASS coordinates, the system will automatically confirm whether the specific production site has successfully passed all verification procedures on the Russian side.
