Upcoming Enforcement of EN 15194:2017+A1:2023 – New Requirements for E-Bike Battery Compliance
On August 23, 2025, the two-year transition period for the mandatory application of EN 15194:2017+A1:2023 for EPACs (Electrically Power Assisted Cycles) will come into effect. One of the most significant changes is the mandatory use of EN 50604-1+A1:2021 as the sole standard for e-bike batteries on the EU market.
Although EN 50604-1+A1:2021 is not a harmonised standard on its own, its application is mandated through its reference in EN 15194:2017+A1:2023, which is harmonised under the Machinery Directive.
We encourage manufacturers to use the remaining transition period to adapt current and upcoming products to meet the new requirements.
SIQ offers comprehensive testing and certification services for e-bike batteries, providing a one-stop solution to ensure full compliance with the applicable standards.
